Mixed atrophy of the brain. Cerebral disorders can be age-related, genetically conditioned or induced by accompanying pathology. Mixed atrophy of the brain is the process of the gradual death of neurons and their connections, when the cortex and subcortical substructures suffer. Predominantly, the degeneration of nervous tissue happens in women after 55. Atrophy leads to dementia and gradually reduces life quality. With age the size of the brain reduces due to disintegration of the neurons. The pathological process can also be observed in childhood, if the disease is transferred genetically.

Accompanying pathologies and the factors of the environment also affect the process. Mixed atrophy involves functional parts of the brain that are responsible for motor and cognitive activity, planning, analysis and critic of patient’s own behavior and thoughts. Early stage of the disease characterizes by apathy and reduced activity. In some cases, immoral behavior is observed as the patient loses self-criticism and behavior control. Further, the vocabulary and productive thinking reduce, the person fails to recognize the habitual objects and gradually, the personality degrades and idiocy comes.
