Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson’s disease is a slowly progressing severe chronic hereditary neurodegenerative disease typical for elderly; it belongs to the degenerative diseases of extrapyramidal motor system. There are the studies that prove that the relatives of the patients with the Parkinson’s disease have been also sick at least in 15-17%. That means that the syndrome is inherited, but still, it is not that simple. First, it is hard to define the exact percentage of the Parkinson’s disease carriers as not everyone lives up to the manifestation of the symptoms. Second, the researchers are unable to define how the disease is transferred in the family. Presumably, it is induced by the progressing disintegration and death of the dopamine expressing neurons, primarily, in the substantia nigra, as well as other sections pf the CNS.  Insufficient expression of dopamine leas to the retarding effect of the basal ganglia on the brain cortex. The leading symptoms include: muscle rigidity, hypokinesia, tremor, postural instability. So far, contemporary medicine is unable to cure the disease, but is able to considerably improve the life quality of the patients and suspend the disease progress. The term “parkinsonism” is a general term for the range of the diseases and conditions with the above-mentioned symptoms.
